Daiyu Burying Flowers

Grand View Garden · In the prime of the Jia household

After the Grain in Ear festival, Daiyu buries fallen petals by the flower mound. Baoyu hears the Flower-Burial Song through the shade.

Daiyu buries the fallen petals and weeps the Flower-Burial Song. Baoyu hears "when spring is gone, so is beauty," and sinks on the slope. They meet; both are wounded; neither says what they mean.
