The Wizard of Oz · Chapter 1

The Cyclone

A Kansas farm · As the cyclone arrives

A funnel cloud hangs over gray Kansas. Dorothy can go into the cellar, or run back for Toto.

When the cyclone comes, Aunt Em calls her to the cellar. Toto hides under the bed; Dorothy runs back for him and cannot get down again. The house is lifted, and when it lands it has killed the Wicked Witch of the East. Oz begins here in the original.
