The Call of the Spire · 原著

Beneath the craggy peaks of the Eivor Mountains, in the village of Lirren—a place shrouded by perpetual mist—there was a legend of an alchemist who once sought to turn stone to gold. The villagers spoke of him in hushed tones, for his pursuit had brought ruin. His laboratory, a towering spire of slate and glass, still stood motionless on the edge of the abyss, casting a shadow over the town like a reminder of ambition gone awry. It was said the alchemist had vanished into his own creation, leaving behind warnings and fears that shaped Lirren’s traditions. The people of Lirren lived cautiously. Each year, on the eve of the Harvest Moon, they gathered for the Festival of Warding, a ritual meant to appease the spirits of the spire. Lanterns were hung in every home, and a solemn procession wound its way through the village, ending with an offering of herbs and trinkets left at the spire's base. It was a tradition born of fear, a way to keep the alchemist’s shadow at bay. Elara, a young woman with hair that fell in dark, windswept waves, had grown up participating in the Festival of Warding. But unlike most in the village, she didn’t fear the spire—she was consumed by curiosity. Her late mother, a healer who dabbled in remedies that some whispered bordered on sorcery, had often spoken of the alchemist not as a villain, but as a seeker of knowledge. When her mother passed unexpectedly during a harsh winter, Elara found herself drawn to the spire—not out of rebellion, but out of longing. She believed that somewhere within its crumbling walls lay answers, not just about the alchemist, but about herself.
